For boats, it is generally recommended to have fire extinguishers that will combat both Class A and Class B fires therefore making foam fire extinguishers the most suitable for boating use.  Each individual fire extinguisher must have a fire rating that is more than 5A/34B and is recommended to follow the guidance below when choosing fire extinguishers for boats:
